*New* Lifeline Requirement

Woody: Has everyone picked a moving buddy?
- What?, Moving buddy?, You can’t be serious.
- Well, I didn’t know we were supposed to have one already.
- Do we have to hold hands? Oh, yeah.
Woody: You guys think this is a big joke. We’ve only got one week left before the move.
I don’t want any toys left behind.
A moving buddy. If you don’t have one, get one!

What’s a Lifeline?

Is it the Fifty-fifty, the Ask the audience, the Phone a friend? In part yes. We have learned that when parents bring in a child or youth from the foster care system they realize something very important. This is hard! Without a doubt our most successful families are the ones who reach out for help, especially from friends early in the process. Preparation is essential with any great endeavor. Making a building, fighting a war, preparing for a job interview, or going on a game show where the stakes are high. Building a family is no different especially when the challenges and rewards are great. Part of that preparation is in recruiting a Lifeline family.

Starting in January 2009 all Project 1.27 adoptive families are required to recruit two(2) Lifeline families before they are allowed to proceed to their county/agency for certification. A Lifeline family is a family or friend who has committed themselves prior to your packet turn in date to:

  1. Spend time with your children or youth
  2. Two times a month
  3. For 3-4 hours
  4. Throughout your placement period through finalization
  5. In coordination with your case worker.

If you are in the process already you may also want to recruit a family or two. Just fill out the form and turn it in. (lifeline-form-02-09) Woody was right, if we’re on the move, then we need a moving buddy.

Though one may be overpowered,
two can defend themselves.
