While You Wait

  1. Please check for eligibility.  Read section 7.701.33 paragraph D. section 7 to the text of 1 of the State “Volume of Child Care Facility Licensing” document for details.
  2. Join a an adoption support group – this will be required once you become a Project 1.27 family anyway.
  3. Get copies made of marriage certificates, divorce decrees, and birth certificates.
  4. Talk with your parents (future grandparents), friends, Bible study group, etc. Recruit a committed support team to accompany you on this journey.
  5. Get your home in order.
  6. Get your financial budget in order.
  7. Get your time budget in order. Consider setting aside the whole first year of placement to focus on your new child. Pair down your work schedule, extracurricular activities, moving plans, etc.
  8. Become familiar with the public schools in your area.
  9. Talk with your biological children about adoption-adoption should be a family decision.
  10. Make friends and/or visit with other adoptive families and their children.
  11. Get your pets vaccinated and keep the records.
  12. Get educated on foster care system issues. These kids have had unique experiences.
  13. Check in with Project 1.27 to learn about other training classes and resources available around the state. However, remember that you cannot attend Project 1.27 training classes until you both have completed Orientation and completed the commitment forms.
  14. Come visit us in our Project 1.27 office to check out some of our in office resources-videos, kids pictures, books, etc.
  15. Come volunteer in our office. Check out our volunteer opportunities on our web site or with us directly.
  16. Pray for the waiting children and youth - see waiting children
